Next week, October 4-10, is International Babywearing Week. This is an annual event sponsored by Babywearing International (BWI), a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the practice of babywearing through education and support. There is an active babywearing community in the metro Atlanta area with many activities in which to participate next week as well as year round.

BWI of Atlanta is our local chapter of Babywearing International and an amazing resource. Monthly meetings are held all over the metro area and are free of charge. For only $30 a year, you can become a member and check out one carrier per month from the lending library and attend member only events and workshops. BWI of Atlanta’s International Babywearing Week special events can be found on their Facebook page and website.

Anklebiter Adventures is a free Cobb County parents and kids group that offers support and activities for adults and children ages birth through 6 years. They meet primarily Monday through Friday and host many unique events. One of the incredible perks of becoming a member is a totally free carrier lending library. The popular babywearing portrait mini-sessions by BlondeShot Creative on October 9 still have limited slots available and proceeds from the event will be used to purchase carriers for Sheltering Grace Ministry, a shelter serving pregnant and new mothers. You can check them out on their Facebook page and Meetup page.

Twinmommy 101 is a blog run by a local mom of twin girls. She is an excellent source for tandem babywearing and is quite knowledgeable in woven wrapping techniques.  Follow her blog and Facebook page next week for giveaways, promotions, and more.

If you are interested in babywearing and like to support local businesses, we have a couple great options in Atlanta. New Baby Products has a nice selection of buckle carriers, ring slings, and mei tais. They are family run, helpful, and knowledgeable. Wrapped Up is a relatively new local store with an emphasis on babywearing and natural parenting. This shop is run by two moms who actually met at a babywearing meetup after their sons were born.

Whether you already babywear, are interested in babywearing, or are still awaiting your arrival, International Babywearing Week has something for you. Our partners at Parent Nurture cover babywearing in their private New Parent Essential Lesson. Have fun and enjoy wearing your baby safely and happily!

Celebrate with us! Use the hashtag #IBW2015 and share a photo of yourself wearing your baby. Have fun!
